Open House – Pledge 2022

Open House – Thursday 27 January 2022

13.00 (GMT) online via Zoom

Join us as we review progress in 2021 and share inspiration for 2022

This time last year, we launched the Fair Luxury Pledge initiative; a new framework designed to support you and your peers to take tangible steps towards better business. The programme was an opportunity for us each to set personal goals and to network with other Pledgers with shared aims, exchanging knowledge and ideas along the way. No matter one’s position in the industry or the stage they found themselves at in their ‘fair jewellery journey’, the Pledge scheme was implemented to offer motivation and a sense of community.

12 months, over 120 Pledgers and a host of inspiring Pledge-themed Open House events down the line, we’re incredibly proud to say that the initiative was a roaring success. Seeing our industry ignite with such inspiration has been fantastic. With every Pledge taken – each just as positive and dedicated as the last – we’ve found ourselves instilled with further confidence in our collective pursuit of a fair and sustainable jewellery industry. ⠀

Now, with 2022 upon us, it’s time to reflect on the challenges and successes of the year behind us – and start hatching plans for the one ahead.

JOIN US

Our next Fair Luxury Open House is on Thursday 27th January 2022, 13:00 GMT. We’ll be taking a look back at the Pledges made in 2021, discussing the effectiveness of the Pledge framework, and exchanging ideas for 2022 Pledges.

We’ll hear from real life Pledgers, invited to discuss the areas they succeeded in, the parts that didn’t go so well, and their plans to continue journeying towards better business this year.

Do you have a Pledge success story of your own that you’re proud to share? We’d be delighted for you to spend a few moments speaking to our Open House guests about it. Please feel free to put yourself forward by dropping us a line on pledge@fairluxury.co.uk.

This event is free and open to anyone who’s interested; from existing Pledgers to newbies looking to make a positive change or two this year. All we ask is that you register your place in advance and bring along any mates that you think might benefit from making a Pledge of their own.

TELL US HOW WE DID

As we prepare to restart the Pledge initiative for 2022, we’d love to hear about your Pledger experience. Your honest feedback would serve as a pillar around which to construct this year’s framework, ensuring it’s even more impactful than the last.

If you could spare a few minutes of your time to answer a few simple questions sometime before Wednesday 26th January 2022, we’d be incredibly grateful.

Reflecting on ten years of certified artisanal gold

Reflecting on ten years of certified artisanal gold

Where are we now? Has enough been achieved, and what’s next?

Thursday 16 September 2021 14:00-15:30 (BST) online

For many years the idea of certified responsibly mined and fairly traded gold was a dream – but one that became a reality in 2011. Now ten years have passed and consumers can choose to buy from over 350 licensed jewellers working with certified Fairtrade or Fairmined Gold.

Join us for this exciting panel discussion hosted by our own Arabel Lebrusan in conversation with Morgane Nzelemona, Anna Barker and Christina Miller. Find out more about our speakers below.

Expect a challenging, informative and inspiring session to celebrate this milestone and consider the impact of the past ten years. We will also be shining a light on some of the challenges and sharing details of projects and initiatives aiming to tackle them.

Our speakers represent a force for good in artisanal mining; follow the links to find out more about them and their work.

Morgane Nzelemona is part of the Fairmined initiative powered by the Alliance for Responsible Mining to create more responsible gold supply chains. She works with brands, manufacturers, and refiners to integrate ethical and traceable gold into their supply chain and engages the gold industry with responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations. With a background in international affairs and economics, she has worked for various French NGOs to raise awareness in areas such as social inequalities, financial inclusion and social entrepreneurship.

Christina Miller is founder and consultant at Christina T. Miller Consulting, providing education, guidance and strategy for small and medium-sized jewellery companies and connecting civil society organizations and jewellers to implement customised, responsible, and sustainable business practices. She co-founded Ethical Metalsmiths, launching the Radical Jewelry Jewelry Makeover and organised the first multi-jeweller Fairmined gold purchase.

In 2018 Christina was awarded the WJA Carelle Grant for her work helping jewellers make a difference. With the grant, she launched Better Without Mercury/Mejor Sin Mercurio.

Anna Barker is the Head of Commercial Partnerships at the Fairtrade Foundation, where she is responsible for the team working with major retail and consumer goods partners to deliver responsible sourcing solutions in business supply chains across a range of commodities. Prior to joining Fairtrade, Anna worked for Levin Sources, a consultancy dedicated to the responsible sourcing of minerals.

This is also an opportunity to find out more about the Fairmined and Fairtrade Gold certifications and what they mean for consumers, jewellers and for artisanal miners and their communities. There will be time for questions and answers.

The event is free to attend but please register in advance to join us.
